Our Rocks

I often reflect on my “rocks” in life. These are the things, thoughts, people and places that make me feel safe, secure and sometimes just plain old normal. What are your rocks? Who are your rocks? For me, I have a restaurant that I have been frequenting for over 20 years and when I go there, I feel safe and at home. I have been there through deaths, pregnancy, birthdays, celebrations, gatherings, and more. I have seen the snow fall, heard the wind blow and saw the sun shine all through the same window. I have been in this restaurant safe and sound while torrential occurrences of nature were happening elsewhere in the world. It is one of my “rocks”.
I have good friends that although I do not see often, they are a “rock” to me. Over the years we have laughed together, cried together, celebrated together, mutually attended the funerals of each of our loved ones, and shared stories, recipes, plants and more. When life becomes variable or stressful for me I think of my friends; they are one of my rocks. It instantly puts me into a frequency of safety and gratitude.
I am blessed with many amazing friends and colleagues but one friend in particular is one of my “rocks”. This person understands me on many levels and it makes her all the more one of my strong and safe places. She is a friend, Mom Confident, Business Partner and more. Together we share on every topic in our lives and it is very comforting to have one person who has similarities in all ways. It is a safe space and she is a beautiful and lovely asset to my rock collection.
I identify and know my rocks. Why? I want to make sure they are there for me when I need them. Not the rocks themselves but the safety of knowing they are in my world and that they are very precious to me. Like a child who collects rocks, stones and other pieces of nature, I collect “my rocks” to bring me both comfort and joy throughout my life.
What and who are your rocks? Perhaps it is even a voice. A voice of a loved one or friend who just by hearing their voice you find comfort. Or a cup of tea? Or? ……..
Today I am wishing everyone peace on their journey and please share what and who your “rocks” are by commenting on this post. 

Love, Light & Laughter

I read a quote sometime back that said something to the effect of: “The people that I love the most are the ones who make me laugh the most”. I cannot remember who it the quote is by, but I do reflect on it often. In my contemplation of this quote, I have come to the conclusion that those who makes us laugh allow us to feel absolute and unconditional love. When we can truly laugh with someone it connects us to the frequency of acceptance, worthiness, and love. When we are in the energy of lightheartedness and acceptance, while in the presence of another, it can signify freedom and joy. To me, freedom and joy are interchangeable with both love and acceptance. Think of your happiest moments spent with others. Whether it is or was with a spouse, a friend, a colleague, or even a complete stranger. Usually the times that come to mind are the ones where laughter is present; that is present like a gift . The frequency of laughter is lighter than other frequencies. It is more vibrant, joyous and lifts and lights up our spirit. Who, in your life, makes you laugh the most? Can you feel it now even as you think about it? Can you feel the feeling? That feeling of absolute joy and love without conditions? It’s a very beautiful thing indeed and personally I will spend as much time with those beautiful, laughing, people as I can. We can never laugh too much and I make it a daily routine to laugh as much as I can and for as long as I can. To laughter

The Breath of Live

October 20, 2012
This morning I was with my daughter, Sivanna Rose, waiting for her school bus, and ever since the weather has turned cool I usually bring a blanket to cover her. We sit on the grass near the curb and she sits on my lap. I hold her tight, like a baby, tucked under the blanket. Well this morning she expressed that she was still cold, so I told her that her breath would warm her up. So, as any 5 year old would do, she started breathing heavily, underneath the blanket. I could not see her but I could feel her breath coming through the blanket. In that moment, I had a deeper understanding of the breath of life. I realized that although I could not see this body under the blanket, I could feel her breath and that I was the one who gave her the breath of life. It was truly a moving and deep experience for me. I later reflected on her birth and how much meaning this had for me. Sivanna was on a respirator for a short time and although that time was short if was terrifying. I did not know if her lungs would develop enough and I could not hear my newborn baby cry. So to my Sivanna Rose “I may have given you the breath of life, but in return you gave me the Grace of God and most importantly, eternal love". Thank you my beautiful girl.

Shifting Perspectives

An interesting idea that helps to shift your perspective is to find gratitude in something you would normally judge or complain of or about. Whatever it is, find a side of the situation that you can have gratitude for. This can free you from torment and shift your frequency to a place that actually serves you rather than weakens you. For example, if you are sick, even though it may be challenging, try switching the focus from the pain or inconvenience, to a place of appreciation that people are actually caring for and loving you. Keep your focus on the gratitude of having access to support, care, nutrition, healing, medicine or whatever is assisting you for your highest good and healing. Whatever we are experiencing we can always find something in the experience that can serve as a platform for gratitude in order to shift the persception we are having. All things flow better when we allow love and gratitude into our lives. Love and gratitude are the universal threads that support and tie together all that is, but we need to open the channel to receive.

Born to be Free

Today at my daughter’s school, I noticed on the wall, some children’s writings and one jumped right out at me. It said “They were born to be free”. Upon further investigation, I realized it was about bear cubs and returning them to the woods; however, those 5 simple words stopped me in my tracks. I reflected on human life and these mere five words. How interesting that children understand this core principal at the deepest level. We are not different than the bears. We are all born to be free. Free to love, free to laugh, free to be who we wish to be. I believe it is our core longing and most natural state; it is what we all strive for at some level. I realized that these five words had completely stopped me in my tracks . It is interesting in that we get so caught up in things outside of ourselves that we lose sight of the greatest and yet most profound gifts we possess…. the freedom to be …. to just be.

The Little Mitten & The Tracks

The Little Mitten & The Tracks
Every morning when I take my 4 year old Sivanna, to the school bus I am moved beyond words. Today we got ready and moved through our morning routine to get us to bus time. First and foremost today we must check to make sure the four snowmen she and Dad built are still standing. Yes! We carry on and finally we are out the door with snow suit, hat, mitts and backpack. We cut under the tree in the front yard (the short cut) and head for the bus. It’s the 2nd snow fall and it’s wet. When we get to the bus stop we wait and chat. Today we make footprints in the snow and compare our boots. She amazes me with the things she not only knows but points out to me. I have a maple leaf pattern on the bottom of my boot. Wow, who knew? The bus comes and as we wait for it to make its turn onto our street we start our new ritual of counting until it comes. We kiss and hug and Sivanna gets on the bus. She sits on the front seat and looks out the window at me. This is the part that moves me the most. I see her smiling face and we send kisses and hugs and she waves her little pink mitten at me until I can see her no more. I turn toward our house and see our set of tracks that led us to the bus. I follow them home and I have absolute gratitude for the gift of a family and a home filled with love, but most of all for the little girl who holds the little waving mitten......

What Is Really Important?

When it comes to life and our lives, what is really important? Sometimes in the midst of day to day living, it's easy to forget what really matters and what does not. For example, we have a society that is a host to rules and regulations, policies and procedures and it's easy to get overwhelmed and confused. Many of you that know me personally, know that one of my favourite sayings is “Garbage day is Thursday”. Yep, that's what I say. What do I mean by that? Well, the real, underlining idea behind that is that MY garbage day is Thursday and yours is Wednesday or whatever day it is, AND that the point is somebody made it all up! Life and our world is just that, a bunch of made up stuff and someone or somebodies of people made up some protocols, systems, beliefs, rules, and we follow along like Sheeple.... (sheep/people). We start focusing on the dots of life rather than the big blank background of possibilities. We argue over trivial things like fences, what to have for dinner and who did what right or wrong. We get our egos involved and we try to control and regulate and follow procedures and be right and not wrong and etc. etc. and on and on it goes. How much fun is that? Sounds exhausting to me. So, when I say to myself “Garbage day is Thursday, it immediately reminds me to be centered and grounded in what really matters. At the end of the day or even at the end of our lives, I believe that what really matters is a quote from Life Coach Cheryl Richardson, “What matters is who you loved and who loved you”. That's it. It can't get any simpler than that. So the next time you find yourself arguing with the neighbour about a fence, or correcting your child incessantly, or majoring on the minor, or focusing on the dot, remember “Garbage day is Thursday”... it's all made up anyway and it is only love that truly matters. xoxoxo

Love is Neutral

A friend of mine, Maureen, shared this thought with me recently and I thought, “how wonderful”. Before I begin, though, I want to clarify that I am not talking about neighbours as in, I have a problem with the fence, noise etc. I am referring to neighbours in life in general. So on the note of love being neutral.....
Yes, love is love and just is. If we could truly practise this we would have no judgement, we would indeed, be neutral. For example, my neighbour in life does this, that, lives their life like this or that, etc. and I think it’s right, wrong or whatever I happen to judge it as. If we are loving and in “neutral” we would not judge it as anything, just love it for what it is. We would be neutral. We would have no need to judge it, we would just observe it. How freeing this is. It is our judgements that hold us and bind us to pain and suffering and egoism. Without judgement, our neighbours, family members, friends and everyone in our world would be free to express themselves and we would not have to attach to it at all. We would be free to express ourselves and live in alignment with our higher selves and our own expressions of how we want to live our lives. It reminds me of my favourite philosophy about love “I want what you want”. To me that is truly loving someone; not loving them for what I think I need or want from them or how they affect me and my life. I love and support them in what they want for their highest and greatest desire.... to me this is the freedom of love. This is being neutral.

Cry Not

While walking home today after dropping Sivanna off at her daycare, I started to reflect on the realization that this is the last week she will be attending there before starting school. The daycare has had a special place in my heart and this is an end of an era for both Sivanna and for me. I thought I would share how interesting this experience was for me. As I started to feel the associated emotions of the transition; such as sadness, loss, change etc., I then became an observer of myself. I realized that “feeling these feelings” was truly a choice. Wow, I realized I did not have to be sad. I could choose to experience this or not. It was very freeing to realize that Sivanna is starting school next week whether I am sad, happy or indifferent so why would I want to feel loss and suffering? I chose to not attach at all and just enjoy the walk home with promise of a new era in our lives beautifully unfolding as it will.... ahhh.

Driven

After watching the movie “Eat, Pray, Love”, I was once again reminded about how driven we are here in the Western World. When we observe other countries and cultures, it is beautiful to see how they can embrace “just being” much more naturally than we seem to do. We seem to be so driven. Driven for what? To be, do, have? To get to someplace where we can just be? It seems we are so driven we forget to get off at the bus stop called “Just Being”. We get on a bus called “Driven” and hope to end up at “Just Being” but somehow we miss the stop. Perhaps other cultures make the bus stop the priority and not the bus. Hmm, food for thought.... and on that note, I was once again reminded of the simple pleasures of food. The simple pleasures of sharing food and enjoying both the food and the interaction; nourishing both the body and soul. Could it really be this simple? Could we really just find peace in being? In being alone, together, just being? I say yes. It’s time to put the bus stop first and not the bus. 

The Sweet Loss of Motherhood

As each day passes and I take Sivanna to day care, I feel more and more strongly a sense of loss, sweet loss. This is her last year going to daycare prior to starting school and I know it's the end of an era so to speak. For me, it signifies the end of my baby. Her babyhood. That sweet time for a mother when all is well; a mix of the new excitement of having a new life in your world and the thrill of motherhood. The biggest sensation I have is losing this net of safety and control that this age seems to provide. Perhaps motherhood is meant to be this way so it can ease us into the changes and experiences life offers it's participants; a gradual integration. The daycare seems so safe and serene. Not only the daycare will I miss, but weekday mornings spent at Ballet or Kindergym. These places also feel safe and let me escape from the rigours of the adult world. They are moments in time that see to stand still. I love chatting with the other parents, grandparents and caretakers of the children. I love seeing the joy of the children expressing their newly found selves, moment by moment. At these events I get to be both a child again and proud new parent... so sweet are both of these. I am open to change and love the new experiences life has to offer but my mother's heart knows she will miss these moments more than I can say.... ah the bittersweet joy of motherhood.

The Genie in the Bottle

The Genie in the Bottle

Your wish is my command,
The Genie in the bottle is who I am.
You cannot see me, but I am always there,
Everything you wish for, I can hear.
Some call me God, Some call me Allah.
The name you call me, does not matter.
You are all born equal with me as your guide.
In good times and bad, I am always by your side.
I do not judge you, I do not care,
I give what you ask for and I am always there.
You ask with your thought, your word and your action.
The wish is more powerful if you ask with passion.
I have no need. I am here to serve,
Whatever you get, you deserve.

Perception, Once Again

Perception Once Again

While walking Sivanna to Daycare the other day, I was once again reminded about perception and its many guises and how quickly it can manifest. We were walking along the fence that adjoins the playground and Sivanna said “Look Mom someone left their sweater, it must be a teacher’s”. I looked over, saw a navy blue sweater draped over a log, and agreed with her. “Yes, honey somebody did and you are right it must be a teachers”, I said, judging by the size. We proceeded into the school where the children were gathered and I mentioned the sweater to the teachers. They agreed that this was possible as it was hot and cold and they had been adjusting their clothing to accommodate the weather. I left the building and started on my walk home. While passing “the sweater” I realized it was not a sweater at all, it was a navy blue towel! Both Sivanna and I had seen a navy blue sweater that would fit the teachers. What a great example of perception and building beliefs. Not only did we both believe there was a sweater but we added more thoughts to it which became beliefs i.e. who’s sweater is was. Perception is like that. We take something and use perception to make a whole new creation by adding thoughts and judgements. The point of power however; is truly in knowing it is our creation. Perception is a filter, a tool, to use to perceive and decipher and relate back to us a form of clarity or understanding. We need to tread lightly with perception and to beware of its many guises and its easy ability to mold itself into beliefs. Perception and judgement can often be found hand in hand and the tool (a verb) of perception now becomes a noun, “Judgement”. Judgement reminds me of vines. The kind of vines that wrap themselves around whatever they can, the kind that gets into the tiniest nooks and crannies, the kind that become steadfast and sturdy and almost impossible to loosen. Awareness is the first step to loosening our judgements and questioning our perceptions. When we do this, we are more free to observe and see the world in it’s perfect divine order and are better able to discern “what is" and to experience the freedom of non-judgement and move to unconditional love.

The Gift of a New Day

The Gift of a New Day
Wow, what a joyous celebration to awaken to the dawn of a new day. Like a present to open and to unfold, one can relish in the lovely possibilities for this day. This day that is yours to create and to delight in. It is a brand new unfolding of pure potentiality and is purely creative and unlimited in its possibilities.
Starting your day with gratitude opens the channel of possibilities and infinite grace. By declaring your gratitude for even the simple things such as your favourite pillow, the comfort of your bed, the blessings of your family, you open the connection. This connection is to the source of all that is good and all that is awaiting your desire of it. You need only ask and to be aware of it. The more you can see the blessings around you the more they appear in all their interesting disguises. They are everywhere and when you are awakened to this spirit within you, life almost appears magical. You are like the kid in the candy store, delighting in the experiences of the day and creating your day through your intent and desire. Intending your day to be joyous, happy or whatever you choose is within your personal power and is a birthright for everyone, no exceptions. The world truly is as you perceive it to be. We are mirrors bouncing our perceptions off the faces of those around us. When we see love, we see love bouncing back at us. When we see joy and beauty, we feel joy and beauty shining on us and we then project it and reflect it on to others. It is so very, very simple and we tend to overcomplicate it and get lost in the “noise” of chaos. Let us remember that this new day is a gift for us to become “brand new” again; it is a dawn for our new creation and intention and it is truly a gift and a platform to create anew and with a perception that serves us and uplifts us rather than keeping us locked in fear and disempowerment. Let us go today with the intention of absolute and delightful creation and polish up our “mirrors” so that we both see and reflect the love and the joy that is there for all of us. The more we do this one by one, the greater the shift of perception for everyone, and the more the entire planet will benefit and delight in remembering that “we are all one”.

The Kindest Gift

See Others Thru your Eyes – Yes Do This
A.K.A The Kindest Gift

See people the way you want to see them. This is the easiest way to peace. Since we create everything in our lives and projection is what we use to run the movie, let’s make the movie. Let’s be the script writer, the producer and cast the characters to our liking. Sounds simple enough right? Well it is. When we see others as we would like to see them and it is with the highest intent, we have the opportunity to not only gain personal peace but to empower and uplift that individual or individuals as well. This is especially powerful in the case of spousal relations. When we first meet we tend to see the greatest gifts in each other and often as time goes on we start to focus on the things that irritate us or the very things we thought were “cute” in the beginning. There is a lot of power in two or more people being gathered together with like minded thoughts; so with that said, it is very important that both you and your partner only hold thoughts of the highest intent, especially for each other. This is also very important for modelling love and empowerment when children are involved.
The shortcut to utilizing this formula is to focus on the very thing or emotions that trigger a reaction in you Ex. “My husband does not listen to me”. Take that example and first and foremost find examples or ways where he has listened to you. It does not have to be today, even in the past is fine. Get into the feeling of being listened to and know that it is indeed possible. Now you can “see and believe” that your husband listens to you and the next step in activating the movie is to express to your husband how you appreciate the fact that he has a wonderful way of listening to you. He and you will both now have a sense of his capacity to listen to you or whatever the particular script you want to run is. This is very simple and it need not be complicated. We just need to see and embrace the qualities in others and help hold the light so they can remember who they are. When someone is told that “they never listen to you” for example, the script is set. Even if they believe they listen, the discord and disharmony that is experienced is a negative and a disempowering movie, not the movie we want to see. The movie where there are two people living in full empowerment, complete with support and encouragement. This is the beautiful gift in of a relationship. It is the ongoing support and the gift of having a partner. The two individuals can help each other to both see their inner gifts and beauty. A partner means partnering, uplifting, honouring and supporting each other in love and integrity.
We often like to tease each other or throw digs in relationships but when one partner is perhaps feeling inadequacy or self doubt, this only adds to the feelings of inadequacy or low self worth. It is a similar frequency and resonates with the lower frequency or vibration of doubt. This can be an avenue to further allow the disempowering situation or feelings of doubt, failure or lowered self love and worth.
The kindest thing and the greatest gift we can do for others and ourselves is to truly practise seeing others in the highest projection possible so that they can be the greatest version of themselves and that they are supported upon the wings of eternal, unconditional love.

Hello?

Hello?
Have you said “Hello” to yourself lately? To that inner side of you that tries to speak to you? The one that offers ideas, inspirations and hope? We often get so busy with the noise of life that we close off the channel to our inner self, our true self. Our inner guidance system is there for us to access at all times but like a radio with bad reception we often tune it out or fail to tune in at all.
We tend to listen more to the little voice of doubt and fear and to drown out the voice of love and hope; the voice of inspiration and passion. The ego is the voice that our fears speak thru and it becomes too loud and we can no longer hear the voice of our higher self, our God self. The messages of self doubt and self worth take over and voila we have changed the channel; the channel we were born with, our birth right, our entitlement. We have turned the channel to a channel of fear, of lack and feelings of I am not worthy. Woo hoo great channel.... not....
I invite everyone to say hello to their true selves, to the light within and to embrace it with bells on. If you have not connected with that beautiful part of you lately, tell it you missed it and to come on out and play! This is the real WOO HOO. This is the channel we want to access, to listen to, to encourage, to uphold, delight in and relish in. The channel to your higher self, God self, intuition, higher consciousness, source, or whatever you want to call it, is like a muscle the more you use it the bigger it gets. The more you hear its message the more you are inspired (in-spirit), passionate, free of fear, free of worry, shining your light and delighting the world with your beautiful soul.
Do not waste another precious moment. It’s time to take charge and let that voice sing out load and for you to become the orchestrator of your life, conducting and channelling in passion and joy and being the you you were always meant to be.....

The Nails & The Fabric of My Life

September 6, 2009

Here I sit in Cabin number 4, at the resort homestead where I was raised. Although my parents have long since passed on and gone and it is now owned by my brother, the family essence and connection linger on.
I am now here with a daughter of my own. Sivanna is 3 and playing at the beach with her niece Elissa. They are playing in the exact spot I remember playing at as a child. The memory is alive and vivid in my mind as though it were yesterday. In fact it was 40 years ago. My, how time flies. It is truly amazing how much fun a little one can have simply playing in the sand. The creations to be made, chairs and tables, a house, dinners… and all made from sand and an imagination. Hours and hours of entertainment are to be had.
What a joyous morning I had lying in bed with my daughter talking to her about my own childhood. Sivanna is in awe at all the nails in the logs on the walls and she starts to count them. I then share with her how my father had built this cabin and how my mother had made the curtains but that they are no longer with us. Sivanna turns to me, tells me she loves me and then tells me she will share her Daddy with me. Sweet. Later that day while making the bed I realize that the blankets are the ones my mother made and I observe a patch of matching material, where she covered a hole as to not waste the fabric. These blankets are still going strong and I feel my mother’s love and essence fill the room. I appreciate my parent’s hard work and struggle. I am reminded that life on planet earth is not forever but that the relationships are eternal. How sweet it is to embrace the memories and to watch the glorious unfolding of new memories being made, all simultaneously…. I am feeling a sense of transformation, the amalgamation of my past and my future, all beautifully blending into the now and now I go to be in the moment of where I am….

Life is Like a Garden

Life is like a garden. There for the picking, the planting and the enjoyment of the harvest. Life is like an abundant garden full of delectable choices. Choices that can change from year to year, or even day to day. What we sow so shall we reap.
In life, as in a garden, you can plant whatever seeds you so choose to plant. You may desire a garden vibrant in a variety of colours such as red peppers, yellow squash, green peas and surrounded by a vast assortment of fragrant and colourful flowers. Or you may prefer a subtle and more simple garden with a little lettuce and a few onions.
Like life you can plant the seeds that are indicators of your desires and intent. First we have a thought (choose the seed), then we plant (intent) and then we water & weed (take action) and voila we harvest (manifest our desires). As in life we know that the more nurturing and loving we are within our gardens, the sweeter the rewards, the pickings. Such is life, the more we give to others, the more we get back.
In our gardens we serve our plants, the very source that nourishes us and feeds us so we can continue on our journey that completes the circle of servitude. We serve the plants, they serve us, we serve others and they serve us. A beautiful circle of support and sustainment that is the very core of the universe.
How are you designing your garden? Are you intending with love? Are you planting the seeds of your choosing? Are you understanding that it is all there for you to plant pick, to sow and reap? Everything you could possibly want or desire is there for the picking, you need only ask and it is given. Remember the process thought, intent, action, reap or result or manifest, whatever name you choose to give it (you pick ). The process of sowing and reaping always works. I encourage you to design you life’s garden with bountiful and abundant choices that serve the highest good of everyone and to nurture that garden with love and water it with joy. Celebrate the choices that you make and know that like a garden, life’s energy is ever changing, ever evolving and recreating itself into whatever form it takes on next. The garden of yesterday’s plants become the new fertile earth to sustain the new plants of your choosing and the cycle of creation continues on it it’s beautiful ever evolving and eternal way .
